About ARKK Copenhagen
ARKK Copenhagen is a Nordic brand of sneakers inspired by minimalist Scandinavian architecture and lifestyle.
The company was established in Copenhagen in 2014 by the two friends Kasper Høj Rasmussen and Thomas Refdahl, who shared a strong passion for architecture, design and fashion. Neither of them were able to find a brand of sneakers that expressed the essence of Scandinavian streetwear style – so they decided to make their own.
Since then, ARKK Copenhagen has grown rapidly and now make four collections each year that are marketed in more than 37 countries worldwide. They also have a concept store in the Copenhagen quarter of Nørrebro.
ARKK Copenhagen needed their website translated from English into German. It involved a large amount of content and a very short deadline.
That is why Web Manager at ARKK Copenhagen, Nikolaj Brøndum, reached out to us.
The job was a bit special since the language on the website had to reflect ARKK Copenhagen’s brand and distinctive style as a lifestyle brand that focuses on minimalist and unique design.
After having contacted several agencies, Nikolaj accepted the quote from AdHoc Translations.
In part, this was because of the solution we suggested, and in part because we are used to working with other customers in the same line of business (e.g. Zalando).
After a thorough briefing where we asked about ARKK Copenhagen’s requirements and expectations in terms of style, tone of voice and terminology, we settled on a two-stage solution:
First, a translation by an English-German translator who has many years’ experience and specialises in creative translation, and then a review of the text by a trained copywriter.
Since the style and tone of voice were obviously important to ARKK Copenhagen, we suggested starting with a test translation to make sure that we had found the right match with the translator.
