About Universal Robots
Universal Robots was founded in 2005 with the goal of making robot technology accessible to small and medium-sized businesses. What began as a small start-up created by three engineering students has grown into a global company whose collaborative robot arms are used in thousands of production environments worldwide.
Their first product, the UR5, transformed the market with its flexible 6-axis design. It was followed by the UR10, built for tasks requiring greater reach and lifting capacity. In 2014, Universal Robots released the UR3, the world’s most flexible table-top robot designed to work safely alongside humans. Today, the company’s robot arms remain the only ones in the world that adapt advanced safety settings intelligently to each individual use case.
The brief
Universal Robots needed a way to translate and update website copy quickly across all language versions. Their previous workflow, based on exporting complete XML files and manually re-importing the translations, had become unmanageable. It required excessive checking, manual adjustments, and a large amount of internal time.
The company wanted:
- a dynamic website that could be updated at any moment
- a faster, simpler, and less manual way of handling translations
- a system that avoided repeated rework across 18 languages
- a workflow that did not delay new content or product announcements
They needed an approach that made multilingual updates part of their daily operations instead of a bottleneck.
Our approach
AdHoc Translations proposed a full integration between Universal Robots’ Umbraco CMS and SmartConnect, our integration layer for website localisation.
Project setup
To avoid complex implementation, we built an integration based on a simple API connection. Once installed, it created a direct link between the two systems, allowing content to move smoothly between the CMS and the translation workflow.
This integration provided:
- direct access to all translatable website elements
- the ability to send selected sections or pages for translation instantly
- automatic routing of the content to the correct languages
- a clear overview of what was pending, approved, or already imported
- †an end-to-end workflow without email exchanges or file handling
Universal Robots quickly saw that the setup required almost no training or technical expertise.
Translation workflow
The SmartConnect interface displays a mirror of the website. When the team needs new content translated:
- they open SmartConnect and select the relevant page or component
- they choose the target languages
- with a single click, the content is sent for translation
- they receive a notification when the translations are ready
- they review the translated content in context
- they press import, and the translations appear live on the website
This removes manual copying, reduces errors, and keeps all languages aligned with the source version.
